Dye-sublimation printing is a full color and coverage printing technique. It requires a special two stage printing process that is capable of creating amazingly vivid and sharp fabric prints. The artwork is first printed with specially formulated inks, in reverse, on to sublimation transfer paper (high release or special transfer paper). The paper prints are then pressed together with the fabric or garment using high heat and pressure in a sublimation heat transfer press. During this pressing process, the inks 'sublimate' from the paper directly into the fibers of the fabric.

The dye particles convert into gas — known as sublimation — where they bond to the polyester fibers.

As soon as the transfer is complete, the image is completely absorbed into the fabric and can be washed, dried, and ironed without losing quality. Dye sublimation apparel printing is produced on polyester or polyester blends.

Outpost Digital Print offers two main types of dye sublimation - all over print or spot print.

All over print is also known as or often referred to as cut panel sublimation or cut pieces printing. Cut panels are printed either in a block form or in pattern form and can be printed edge to edge with no inconsistencies. Cut panel printing allows for engineered prints to be placed and scaled as desired with more control over placement and position.

For spot printing, we can print and sublimate t-shirts, leggings, yoga pants, hoodies, sweaters, tank tops and any type of finished garments. This method is best for achieving printed all over exaggerated artwork that extend off to the sleeves and both front + back panels of the garments.
